Born in the latter half of the 1800s in Turkey, Sarkis Erganian traveled to St. Louis for the Worlds Fair in 1904 and began a successful art career and studio practice in St. Louis where he remained an active part of the regional art community until his death in 1950. Along with numerous notable other St. Louisans, Erganian is buried in Bellefontaine Cemetery. Mostly known for his landscapes, the artist also painted portraits of politicians and other notable individuals. Erganians works can be found in collections such as the National Gallery of Art, Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and Missouri History Museum.
