Height 2.5 in., Diameter 3 in. Weight 12.1 oz. Marked Tiffany Studios New York 845 on underside. This Tiffany and Co inkwell is constructed as a square form box with gilt brass pierced side panels inset with malachite green glass, the panels featuring two distinct pierced patterns -- an organic foliate design on two sides and a geometric lattice pattern on the alternating faces -- all framed within a polished brass border and corner post structure. The hinged oval dome lid is separately worked in repoussE gilt brass with a flowing foliate and abstract line pattern in relief, fitting neatly over a round glass ink pot insert below. The combination of gilt brass metalwork with malachite green glass is identical in treatment to Lot 032 and the two pieces are clearly from the same Tiffany and Co design series, likely intended as a coordinated desk set. Tiffany and Co has produced desk accessories in gilt brass and colored glass since the Louis Comfort Tiffany period, and this pierced metalwork with green glass aesthetic draws directly on that distinguished tradition of luxury desk accessories. The piece carries the Tiffany and Co mark and is in good condition overall -- the gilt showing some natural wear at high points consistent with use, the green glass panels intact and the hinge mechanism functioning.
