Swan One Height 5 in., Width 8 in., Depth 1.5 in. Weight 2 lb. 2 oz. Swan Two Height 7 in., Width 6 in., Depth 3 in. Weight 1 lb 15.2 oz. This pair of hand blown clear crystal swan sculptures are the work of Steve Fenstermacher at Youghiogheny Glass of Connellsville, Pennsylvania, the American art glass studio founded in 1976 and renowned for manufacturing hand rolled glass in the tradition of the great Tiffany Studios. The two swans are modeled in the classic resting pose with wings folded and necks curved in the elegant S-curve silhouette, one with a fully extended upright neck and one with the neck arched forward, the transparent glass capturing and bending light through the fluid organic forms with exceptional clarity. The swans vary slightly in size and pose, presenting together as a naturalistic pair that complements each other compositionally -- a larger and a slightly smaller figure consistent with the pairing of adult swans. Youghiogheny Glass is particularly celebrated for its opalescent and stipple glass used in Tiffany-style lamps and windows, and Fenstermacher swan sculptures in clear glass are a documented and collected studio production form, typically signed and dated on the underside. The pair is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks visible and the glass retaining its original clarity and brilliance. The undersides should be examined for the Fenstermacher and Youghiogheny etched mark and date of production.
