The composition is anchored by a large gilded moon disc rising behind the birds, set against a dark stippled ground suggestive of a night sky, creating a dramatic contrast with the luminous white plumage of the foreground figures. The work draws stylistic influences from Japanese woodblock printmaking traditions, particularly in its decorative use of natural motifs, flat color areas and strong compositional layering of flora and fauna.
