Height .5 in., Width 3 in., Depth 1.75 in. Signed Eximious DEcor Main Limoges France on underside. This hand painted Limoges porcelain hinged trinket box is of rectangular form with canted corners, the lid decorated with a central white reserve panel painted with a delicate blue and white floral spray of clematis or morning glory blossoms with buds and foliage in the style of 18th century French porcelain decoration, signed Caillot in the lower right corner of the reserve indicating the hand of the individual atelier painter. The reserve panel is set within a vivid chrome yellow ground border decorated with small dark blue dot accents at the corners and center of each side -- the yellow and blue color combination drawing on the Sevres and old Paris porcelain tradition of jaune jonquille grounds enriched with blue decoration. The box is fitted with original brass mounts including a decorative hinge mechanism at the back and a cast brass clasp at the front with foliate ornament. Limoges porcelain -- produced in and around the city of Limoges in the Haute-Vienne region of France, where kaolin clay deposits were discovered in 1768 -- has been synonymous with fine French hard paste porcelain since the late 18th century, and hand painted and artist-signed Limoges boxes remain actively collected worldwide. The base should carry the Limoges France mark confirming authenticity. Condition is very good with the painted decoration vivid and the brass mounts intact.
