Height 17.5 in., Width 4 in., Depth 4 in., Weight 6 lbs., .37 ounces. Elegant late 19th-century figural sculpture by Auguste Moreau titled Le Message. The work depicts a graceful young woman standing barefoot upon a naturalistic base, holding a letter in one hand and a bird in the other, symbolizing communication and sentiment. The figure is finely modeled with flowing drapery and soft facial features characteristic of the French Romantic and Belle Epoque aesthetic. Cast in zinc with a rich bronze-toned patina, the sculpture is mounted on a variegated marble plinth accented with gilt-bronze applique mounts. Signed Aug. Moreau to the base; foundry mark present.
