In the early 1900s, Anna Hyatt studied art in Boston and at the Art Students League in New York and quickly emerged as one of the most prestigious women artists of her era. Traveling to Europe in 1907, Hyatt opened a studio in France where she worked on her first equestrian sculpture. An award-winning artist, early exhibitions included the Society of American Artists, Louisiana Purchase Expo in St. Louis, Lewis and Clark Expo, Paris Salon, Panama Pacific International Exposition, National Academy of Design, and American Sculpture California Palace of the Legion of Honor. In the 1930s, she received a special commission to create a series of sculptures for the Hispanic Society of New Yorks buildings and courtyard. In 1932, Anna and husband Archer M. Huntington purchased four former plantations on the South Carolina coast where they built Brookgreen Gardens, a nature preserve and sculpture museum. Her works are widely collected throughout the U.S. and abroad.
