Sight Height 24.5 in., Width 20 in. Framed Height 34.25 in., Width 29.5 in. Signed lower right, numbered 251/500 lower left. This color lithograph depicts the clownesse Cha-U-Kao -- one of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrecs most celebrated subjects from his Moulin Rouge period -- in a standing dancing pose with yellow feathered headdress and ruffled green and yellow costume, the composition based on Lautrecs celebrated images of this performer created between 1895 and 1896, versions of which are now held in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Harvard Art Museums and Yale University Art Gallery. This impression is from the posthumous estate edition produced in 1992 at Atelier Arts-Litho in Paris under the supervision of Marcel Salinas -- a renowned 20th century French painter and lithographer -- and recreated under the auspices of the family and heirs of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, with each impression hand signed by the Count of Toulouse-Lautrec in the lower margin. The edition was produced on BFK Rives cotton rag paper in a total edition of 500 numbered impressions plus 50 artist proofs, each impression measuring approximately 21.75 x 17.25 inches image on 28.25 x 22 inch sheet, printed in 14 colors from the original oil painting. The edition number is visible in pencil in the lower left margin and the hand signature of the Count of Toulouse-Lautrec appears lower right. The print is presented in a substantial gilt wood frame with forest green mat and white inner mat. Condition is very good with vivid color and the image well centered within the presentation.
