Sight height 11 in, width 8.5 in, Frame height 20 in, width 17 in. Original woodblock from the illustrations for the Divine Comedy, a poem by Dante Alighieri (1265 – 1321). Dali created 101 watercolor drawings to illustrate the poem. These works have been reproduced using a wood engraving technique. Using this technique, 3500 blocks were carved to print the Salvador Dali Divine Comedy suite completed from 1951 – 1964. Dali’s surrealist tour of Heaven, Hell and Purgatory blends the sinister and the sensual to a haunting effect.
Good condition. The artwork is framed and glazed. There is some minor age toning to the paper.
