This copper alloy Buddha statue stands with hands in double Abhaya mudra, symbolizing the dispelling of fear. Originating from Laos and Thailand, this gesture predates Buddhism and signifies good intentions and friendship. Unlike Indian depictions, Southeast Asian versions often show both hands raised to shoulder level. Crafted in the classic Lopburi style, influenced by Khmer art, this statue dates to the late 18th century, the beginning of the Rattanakosin era. Fine repousse work details the facial features and attire. The high copper content has developed a green patina. The statue is mounted on a wood stand.
